This Public File contains details of the elements that Ofcom regulate, such as music tracks, local news etc. It is intended to give you a better understanding of our output and what we are doing for our local community.

News Bulletin Schedule
Red Dragon broadcasts news bulletins on the half-hour between 6am and 9am, with hourly bulletins from 9am and 7pm on weekdays. These bulletins contain a full mix of local, national and world stories, along with sport, weather and entertainment news. At the weekend, bulletins containing local, national and world news are broadcast on Red Dragon between 7am and 1am. Additional national bulletins are broadcast from 10pm through until 5am seven days a week.

Some recent stories from Red Dragon:

Over the last few months the Red Dragon news team have followed Cardiff City on their road to Wembley to the FA Cup final. In the build up to their biggest game in 81 years Red Dragon told the story of the players, manager and fans and how they were getting ready for the big day. On match day Red Dragon were live from Wembley Way and inside the stadium bringing to life the atmosphere and excitement of the day. Our online content drove tens of thousands of listener to our website.

 

Red Dragon uncovered a new deadly craze for children in Newport - Lorry surfing. It was after a boy was killed trying to cling onto the back of a moving lorry as a dare. Our newsteam discovered a video of this happening on You Tube and our reporter spent the day investigating why kids were risking their lives doing this and what people in the area thought. The police are now working with people in the community to stop this happening.

 

After a number of young people appeared to take their own lives in Bridgend, Red Dragon spoke exclusively to a Mum whose son hanged himself in his home. She had spent the months prior to his death desperately trying to get his mental health needs assessed. Amid a lot of tabloid hype Red Dragon managed to tell the real story behind the sensational headlines.

 

During the recent fuel protests Red Dragon's reporter was on one of the Lorries that were trying to bring South Wales to a standstill in a bid to get the Assembly government to reduce duty on diesel. Lauren Jones brought the frustration of the protestors to our listeners whilst balancing this emotive story.

 

And after Wales won the Grand Slam a huge free party was thrown for fans and the team at the capitals Millennium Stadium. Red Dragon exclusively interviewed headlining acts Feeder and The Stereophonics.

There are no automated programmes for Red Dragon during weekday or weekend daytimes.

All of Red Dragon’s weekday daytime output (0600-1900) and peak time weekend (0600-1000 & 1200-1900 Saturday and 0600-1400 Sunday) output is produced and presented from our local studios.

Some off peak programming (Music Control, Late Night Love, Music on Demand, The Entertainment Edge with Ryan Seacrest, Party Friday, Jeremy Kyle, Hit40UK) is produced at various studios, owned and operated by Red Dragon’s parent company GCap Media plc.

Events/charities support or coverage

Race For Life 2008 - 2nd June, 29th June, 2nd July 2008

 

Red Dragon is getting involved with Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life. Last year saw 23,000 runners take part in the Cardiff and Cwmbran races, and this year should be no different. Red Dragon presenters will be providing on-stage commentary, getting the runners warmed-up and entertained, while the Thunders will be giving out merchandise such as branded water bottles and manning the photo booth where runners can have their picture taken with their medal against the Red Dragon backdrop, which will then be added to our photo gallery on reddragonfm.com

 

Monster Jam - 7th June

 

Monster Jam is a huge event which takes place in the Millennium Stadium featuring giant monster trucks. Red Dragon has been the exclusive radio partner since Monster Jam first started in September 2007. The Red Dragon Thunders have been out and about around the TSA giving out tickets to listeners who have heard they specific location on air. Red Dragon presenters have also been down to the Millennium Stadium to trial out the monster trucks for a day!

 

 

Live at the Local with Goldfrapp - 10th June

 

Red Dragon are bringing electro/dance act Goldfrapp to a secret venue in South Wales to perform infront of an intimate crowd of just a few hundred. 

 

The Welsh National Fireworks Championships, Chepstow - 3rd May

 

The firework championships is an annual event held in Chepstow Racecourse which sees the firework finalists showing their displays.

 

This is the second year running Red Dragon has got involved with this event and helped entertain the crowd in the lead upto the fireworks. This year we put on 3 bands along with Red Dragon presenters to get the crowd going. Also we hired a photographer who took pictures of the crowd which we then put onto our gallery online so our listeners could download.

 

 

The Welsh Awards June 6th 2008

A key Red Dragon annual event which is now in its’ eleventh year.  The station rewards inspirational people and groups in the community in an award ceremony.  This year Alphabeat and Tim Daniels headlined the event which took place in a marquee in Pontypridd. 

 

Diamonds at Dusk June 21st 2008

A 10k sponsored walk in aid of HASWC and Marie Curie Cancer Care who run Cardiff’s main cancer hospice.  The event starts in Cardiff Bay and crosses the Cardiff barrage to Penarth where the hospice is situated and back again. 

 

The New Directions Teachers Awards July 4th 2008

Red Dragon listeners vote online for their inspirational teachers, head teachers and support staff and the finalists will are announced at a glitzy award ceremony at the Holland House Hotel in Cardiff hosted by Jason Harrold and Leigh Jones.

 

The Great Wales Run 27th July 2008.

The second Great Wales Run in and around Cardiff Bay.  HASWC has 100 half price entries for runners for that raise money for HASWC, including Jamie Baulch.

Red Dragon regularly attends local events and fetes to help support communities within its broadcast area.
